Honoring Mary Epstein, 1915-2015
Mary Epstein was a unique and respected design professional. My instructor at Drexel University, she inspired and mentored me throughout my career. Her influence on my approach to design is in seeking the balance between modernism and iconic historic elements in a sophisticated way. She consistently elevated my practice by exploring how to introduce refinement at any level. She shared many words of wisdom. One of her sayings that has served me well is: “Never underestimate your client’s pocketbook.” In other words, don’t shortchange your vision and dreams.
A portrait of Mary has hung in my office since 1988.
